I didn't go home for lunch today. Needed gasoline so I stopped in at Chipotle's for a Mexican salad (no chips. no tortilla shell) The most interesting part of lunch was when I spent ten minutes staring at some woman on and off who was yapping away on her cell like she was in her office. Hello, lady. You're at lunch and so are other people. Turn the damn phone off. I totally failed to get her attention. She was oblivious.
On top of that, she was also with someone (looked like a colleague) and she did not speak to him at all. I had 15 minutes before I had to leave to return to work and I felt so wound up by her that I just couldn't stand it. So - I packed up and as I left I walked up to their table, ignored her and told the man to please "tell the nice lady that this isn't her office and she is being very disruptive". Then I turned around and walked out. I felt very empowered. We really DO NOT have to put up with other people's thoughtless behavior.

Good for you!!!! I think cell phones are so obnoxious. Personally I don't care to listen to anyone else's conversations but I'm forced to do just that in restaurants, in stores, standing in line, just about everywhere anymore. I'm glad you were able to express your feelings and let them know. I applaud you!!!!
A funny comment from Gina:
"hahaha! sorry for laughing..it's just been there, experienced that. I'll be standing in line at a store and all the sudden someone behind me appears to be talking to them self about off the wall stuff like " I got you the monostat 7 cream, and I know you want me to rush home now but I told Floyd I would stop by and pick up that garden hose he borrowed to snake his toilet! Can't you just take a shower and use some of the baby powder on it? Ok ok! I'll rush home first and then go to floyds!" and in my head I'm thinking..."does this person realize he just embarrassed 2 other people and himself? I'm feeling pretty embarrassed for embarking on this conversation. Wow...is this what it's like to own a cell phone? Sure glad I've never owned one...too self absorbing."
I've never called someone on it...but I have experienced the extreme annoyance it can bring to daily life. It's like some people really don't care about common courtesy. Totally understand :) there is a time and a place for cell phone use but not in common public buildings except for emergencies and especially not driving. Perhaps cell phones should come with a free cell phone ettiquette class!"
I agree! I hate being forced to listen to peoples private conversations in public places. The worst is public bathrooms-
This happened during one of my very last times at the movies. I was sooo mad, could have screamed. And then there are those who drive and still talk on their cell phones-I thought there was a law against that!I think most people are just exhibitionists, and wonder if there even is someone on the other end of the line. Try sitting at Starbucks, or the dr's office. Ugh! Had a bee in your bonnet today, didn't you! :)
Oh Annie--you`re a tonic!!!!!
Yes, when someone taeks a cel phone call whislt they are mean tto be with you it is very rude indeed. I want to say, "Tell you waht, I'll call you instead!" :)
I think we are so accustomed to using our cells we may forget where we are at any given moment. A reminder is always helpful! I think it is great when establishments request on entry, that cell phones should be used outside! I'll bet that woman was truly embarrassed. Hopefully, she will remember for the next time.
Thanks for the visit!
Woohoo! You are on a roll! Keep that positive thinking up! Good for you for telling that woman off! I think that everyone that purchases a cell phone should be required to read and sign an etiquette rules form.
Sorry I'm getting around so late this week. It's been a little crazy around my house!
Something I noticed on returning to the US was how obnoxious Americans are on their cell phones. The French our on their phones, but they step out of the restaurant to talk and speak much softer. It was an amazing thing to see.
Loved seeing you were able to visit with Corey and Amy Doll. I would love to meet Amy Doll sometime.
Good for you! One of the best strike-back-at-annoying-cell-phoners moments I heard Kevin Spacey tell in an interview. He was onstage in the middle of a performance, and someone's phone in the audience went off. Spacey broke character and turned towards the offender and said, "Tell them you're BUSY!" (Of course, the idiot probably now brags about the time Kevin Spacey called him out!)
p.s. That little guy in my blog photo is a Buddha statue, you guessed right!
Good for you, Annie! :)
I totally agree! That is incredibly rude! Things like this go on because people usually don't say anything.
Good for you. True story....I was working retail and this person was talking to the point that there was a LONG line behind them (as in the area allocated for the line times 2).I tried to get their attention and get the transaction going faster....they turned, covered their phone and hissed at me "I'm talking on my cell phone!" Apparently I was interrupting as they clearly felt that a checkout line should completely stop while they stood and talked. The "customer" was not pleased when I insisted that the line needed to go (we had all staff on hand and this was ridiculous).
This SO hits me where I live. I hate cell phones, except when appropriate or absolutely necessary. I had an experience like that in Joanne's once -- she didn't even get off the phone during her transaction at the register. Good for you for saying that. I wish I had.
wow...i can so so relate...
love you Annie..
